1869 (first edition), published by Russell Brothers, NY. Reddish hardcover with beveled and embossed (blindstamped) edges, gilt title on spine, about 6 x 9 inches, 128 pages plus 12 pages of ads at the back (Chester, Tillotson, Bradley, Chester Partrick, etc). Has three full-page, single-sided plates showing instruments, opposite pages 29 (Tillotson register), 31 (Charles Williams Jr. relay), and 35 (relay, sounder, and Tillotson combination set with key and box sounder). On the last plate the sounder caption is mis-spelled "soundar".

1871 4th, no other information

1872 "sixth edition, revised and enlarged" published by D. Van nostrand, NY. brown hardcover with embossed edges, gilt title on spine, about 6 x 89 inches, 160 pages + 32 page book catalog. Has the three plates; on the third plate (opp. p. 35) the spelling of "sounder" has been corrected and the sounder style is an updated railroad style.

1873 "eighth edition, revised and enlarged" published by D. Van Nostrand, NY. Brown hardcover with embossed edges, gilt title on spine, about 6 x 9 inches, 160 pages + 8 pages of telegraph equipment manufacturer's ads (Chester, Gamewell, Tillotson, Charles WIlliams Jr., Pope, etc) + 44 page catalog of other D. Van Nostrand books. Has the three full-page, single-sided plates.

1881 "eleventh edition, revised and enlarged" published by D. Van Nostrand, NY. Light green hardcover with blindstamped design, gilt title on spine, about 6 x 9 inches, 160 pages plus 8 page publisher's book catalog at back. Has the three full-page, single-sided plates opp. pp 29, 31, 35.

1886 "eleventh edition, revised and enlarged" published by D. Van Nostrand, NY. Dark green hardcover, about 6 x 9 inches, 160 pages plus 8 page publisher's book catalog at back. Does not have the three plates.

1890 "thirteenth edition, revised and enlarged" published by D. Van Nostrand, NY. Dark green hardcover, about 6 x 9 inches, 160 pages plus _ page publisher's book catalog at back. (No further info)
